All works by the Wanted Artist Group are unusual in that they are each fully collaborative works between three artists. Sometimes two guest artists joined into the process. All works of art often underwent drastic changes as they changed hands. The only rule was that every artist must contribute to the work, and beyond that, there were no rules.

Year of the
Rabbit
oil, photos and paper on
wood
66cm x 61cm

"Year of the Rabbit" is named for the fact that the Aum art was created at the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit of the Chinese calender cycle. The center of this work portrays a photo collage featuring a cartoon head of Hirata taken from an actual life-sized cartoon police sign aimed at children (we assume!) where Hirata is dressed like the bad fox who tries to lead Pinnochio astray into the underworld in the Disney film. This head is situated on a photo of the upper body of one of the artists. This Hirata is holding the head of the Aum leader Asahara on a platter as if the leader himself was the victim of some gruesome sacrifice. This scene is positioned within the image of a cute pink bunny against a blood red background with other images such as the kanji for "murder" alternating with posters for Japan's self defense forces.
